Tear Strength

Tear strength is one of the most important indicators of the resistance shown by foam materials against wear, strain, and sudden load changes. This value, which reveals how much the foam can stretch before tearing and how it reacts to tension, is a critical quality criterion, especially in sectors such as furniture, mattresses, and automotive that are subject to heavy use. When evaluated together with measurements such as tensile strength and elongation at break, it provides a comprehensive analysis of the product's longevity and resistance level. To determine the tear strength, the test sample is prepared in 150 mm x 25 mm x 25 mm dimensions and a cut is applied to the exact center of the 25 mm thickness of the sample up to 5 cm inside. The prepared sample is fixed to the grips of the tensile strength machine and stretched in a controlled manner. The machine measures the maximum force required for the sample to reach the tearing point, and this value determines the tear resistance of the foam. Tests are carried out according to the TS EN ISO 8067 standard.
