There is no standard available to determine the recovery time of viscoelastic (memory) foam. Viscoelastic foam measurements have a complex structure. The reason for this is that the viscoelastic property does not remain constant. It tends to deteriorate over time in low-index products. The most appropriate method applied to determine the recovery time is the finger test. In this test, the foam sample of 5.08cm * 5.08cm * 2.54cm dimensions is compressed with a finger down to 5mm thickness. Simultaneously with the start of the finger being withdrawn, the stopwatch is started and the total time elapsed until the sample reaches at least 95% of its original height is measured. This duration is called the recovery time.
