Compression set is an indicator of whether the thickness of the foam will decrease by being compressed under certain conditions. It is a property where the support and resistance capability of the foam is evaluated. For the test, the sample should be 50mm * 50mm * 25mm. The original thickness of the samples is measured, and then it is compressed in an apparatus where 75% compression can be continuously provided. It is kept for 22 hours in an oven heated and set to 70 °C. After 22 hours of waiting, the samples return to their original thickness after half an hour. After this half hour, their thicknesses are measured again. The difference between the two measurements is proportioned to the first measurement and the compression set rate expressed as % is determined. In short, compression set is expressed as the loss of thickness in % from the original thickness of the sample. Compression set is determined by İki different methods: Dry method and Wet method. In the dry method, the foam is treated in a dry oven at 70 °C. In the wet method, it is treated in an oven with increased air humidity. The dry test is performed in accordance with the TS 2013 EN ISO 1856 standard.
