Elasticity

Surface flexibility and bounce behavior are among the basic properties determining the comfort performance of polyurethane foams. The elasticity of the foam directly affects the user experience, especially in comfort-oriented products such as furniture, mattresses, and seating groups. Therefore, the elasticity value is a critical parameter for evaluating the surface response of the foam, its recovery capability after impact, and the general comfort level. For the elasticity measurement, a tube is placed on the foam sample prepared in 10 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm dimensions, and a steel ball (marble) is released from a height of 1 meter through this tube. The distance the ball bounces back after hitting the foam surface is recorded to determine the elastic response level of the foam. The same process is repeated three times and a reliable result is obtained by taking the average of the measurements. The bounce distance is proportioned to the starting height of 1 meter and the elasticity value is calculated as a percentage. All these measurements are carried out in accordance with the ASTM D3574 standard.
